Tattoo Aftercare
What to do
-
✺
If using second-skin, try to keep the it on for 3-5 days. It is normal to see a buildup of plasma and ink under the bandage.
-
✺
If the second-skin begins to peel off and expose the tattoo before that 3-5 day mark, go ahead and take it off.
-
✺
If you were wrapped up in cling-wrap, remove after 2 hours and do not rebandage.
-
✺
Wash it using only your hands and unscented antibacterial soap. Pat dry with paper towels, not bath towels.
-
✺
Routinely apply a small amount of unscented lotion on your new tattoo as needed, at least until it heals and stops peeling.
-
✺
Stay hydrated and get lots of rest to help your body heal!
What NOT to do
-
✺
DO NOT use petroleum-based products like vasoline or petroleum jelly.
-
✺
DO NOT expose your tattoo to direct sunlight or bodies of water like the ocean, baths, swimming pools, etc. for 3-4 weeks.
-
✺
DO NOT shave, wax. or exfoliate the tattooed area until healed.
-
✺
DO NOT pick, scratch, or constrict your new tattoo with tight fitting clothing during the healing process.
-
✺
DO NOT use things like wash cloths, loofas, bars of soap, etc. that can harbor bacteria. Instead, use your hands and paper towels.
-
✺
DO NOT touch your new tattoo without washing your hands. You can wash it if you feel like it has come into contact with germy surfaces.
Other tips
-
✺
To reduce swelling, ice and elevate the area.
-
✺
Remove the second-skin bandage in the shower to help loosen the adhesive. Peel very slowly!
-
✺
Try to avoid intense workouts for about 2 days after. Beware of gym equipment and clean it before use.
-
✺
It will be itchy a few days into the healing process. Instead of scratching, gently pat or smack the area for some relief.
-
✺
A few minutes using a warm water compress with clean paper towels can help alleviate stubborn scabs and help them fall off naturally.
-
✺
Please see your doctor at the first sign of infection.
